Amsterdam, 18 January 2016. Elegance and whimsical reality are on display at Musée des Arts Décoratifs, from January 21 throughout June 12, 2016.

In collaboration with Pierre Frey, an independent French fabrics and home accessories manufacturing company with a long, rich heritage of craftsmanship and artistry, Marcel Wanders presents Monster Garden. A distinct common thread when it comes to the desire to combine the industrial processes with craft in order to develop innovative creations led to the collaboration.

As a refined, yet fantastical interpretation of the company’s history from 1980 to 2000, the imaginative Monster Garden carpet combines the exemplary style of complex ornamentation, irregular shapes and natural flora and fauna.

Hidden and lurking within the geometric and organic patterns are monsters that reflect a twist on traditional animal motifs. The intricate details are enlivened by an abundant use of expressive colours and with a hand-tufted technique, the material is accentuated with a tangible relief that affords the carpet a three-dimensional feeling.

Monster Garden exudes an understanding of craftsmanship and deep sense of respect for eras past while asserting itself as a design for the future.

What is your favourite book

Believe it or not you're a light-weight

Meet the family

Would you like to take a seat

This make me feel sooo happy

Are you fond of white

Do you believe broken porcelain brings luck?

Do you recognise this face

Are you afraid of black

Sparkly like silver or shiny like gold
