Marcel Wanders presented the Mad Collection at Clerkenwell Design Week London
What began as a single item has grown into a luxurious interior collection showcased during the Clerkenwell Design Week, held in London, May 24 – 26. The 'Mad Collection', a contribution to Poliform’s leading tradition in sophisticated Italian home furniture, came from Marcel Wanders' desire to tell a story with each new piece he created. Wanting to design something that looks and feels luxurious, his first item, the 'Mad chair', is exceptionally soft – an essential aspect of the 'Mad Collection'. There are now three versions of the chair with left, right or both arms and which are available in soothing colours and select finishes. “The thought we've put into this collection and the choices we've made regarding the upholstery, woods, textures and finishes all come together to make this collection very unique and special.”, creative director Gabriele Chiave said.
The successful collection, now a wide assortment of products, was recently launched during Salone del Mobile 2016. The showcase included a dining table and chairs, and two variously arranged sideboards. The wooden 'Mad Dining Table' possesses a slender form and beautifully detailed floral pattern laser cut in the centre. With a smooth finish and three different sizes available, it is sure be the centrepiece of any dining space. The 'Mad Dining Chair' is a hard but flexible structure of moulded polyurethane covered in fabric with soft upholstery inside, and is placed atop solid oak legs and features armrests. The 'Mad Collection' also includes spinning die-cast aluminium legs, available for all classic versions of the chair. The 'Mad Joker Chair' is much smaller and fits multiple spaces, yet remains very comfortable with its ears turned inward for privacy. Additionally, the Theca Cocktail Sideboard and Theca Cinema Sideboard were presented. Each feature voluminous dark fume glass display areas integrated into a wooden system of versatile drawers and compartments.
The collaboration between Poliform and Marcel Wanders is one founded on a shared desire to constantly push design and to evolve it both functionally and aesthetically. “Working with Poliform is an exceptional experience, because we have the same desire to create products that are beautiful and that serve humanity well.”, Marcel Wanders said. In the future, their goal will be to work together to develop new elegant pieces that deliver stylish, contemporary living solutions for the home.
